Eddie went off the diving board for the first 30 times in his life yesterday. After pacing up and down the board looking a little like a kitten who had climbed up a tall tree, he finally jumped in for the first time and then proceeded to do it over and over again! Everyone was cheering for him except for Billy, who insisted that it should be "MY TURN!" The major problem with that, of course, is that Billy cannot swim yet! He threw a massive tantrum that seemed to go on for a half an hour. When Kyle and I were finally able to calm him down with juice and crackers, we were sitting with him on the side watching Eddie. Suddenly I realized that Billy was halfway between me and the diving board heading in the direction of the board. He fully intended to take the plunge! I took off after him, noticing as I went that the lifeguard had shed her gear and was poised to dive off the stand. Thankfully, I reached him and dragged him off the board before he had a chance to plummet like a stone to the bottom of a 12-foot pool. I was rewarded with a renewed screaming hissy fit.
I didn't want to take too many photos of Billy having his fits, but it was kind of cute.
