New Mexico Vacation, Days 3 - 4

On Monday, we woke up really early. 3 am early, probably because we fell asleep early on Sunday night.

Once the sun came up, we went to the 2.5-mile Oeste Vista trail near our house. The first 15 minutes of the hike was a steep climb that made the grown-ups feel like their lungs were going to burst and the arteries in their necks were going to explode, but the youth ran up the mountain like goats.

Eddie said, "It feels like I'm in a Bob Ross painting."

On Tuesday, we drove to Santa Fe through Taos. Everything about the drive was interesting and beautiful and hard to describe in a way that does it justice.

Our first stop in Santa Fe was the Georgia O'Keeffe museum. There was a lot to fall in love with, and Eddie and Billy took time to appreciate the exhibits.

Billy pointed out the instances where GOK used charcoal. "Look, Mom, she drew in pencil."

I thought her early watercolors were beautiful.

Blue skies, black rocks, and lavender strokes on mountain landscapes and fall leaves were much more striking in person than they are on screen.

Next, we walked through downtown Santa Fe to the Burrito Co. for some tacos.

Our last stop in Santa Fe was Meow Wolf. This is an awesome, interactive, insanely creative art exhibit with a very short attention span and it lit the boys up. They explored every crevice of that place.

Billy asked me why it was called Meow Wolf. I told him that I read on the internet that it was because the artists decide they would name it with the first two words they pulled out of a bucket. Billy asked the ticket taker if that was true, and she confirmed.
