"Large Marge sent me."

Saturday was The Howl. It was very chilly, but still lots of fun. Billy decided that even though he liked being a SWAT agent on Saturday night, he's going to go trick-or-treating as a race car driver. I derived deep satisfaction from that, despite the fact that his fire suit is a 24.

Anyway, here we were on Saturday night. Billy was a SWAT agent. Eddie was a shadow (disembodied, kind of like in Peter Pan), and I was Sally from Nightmare Before Christmas.

Also, as promised, here are some more of Billy's drawings. He draws and writes a lot. He's making up and drawing a Dog Man novel as I write this, actually. I think this is his current "persona": author/illustrator.

Dog Man and the Big Monster
Sea monster emerges from the sea and wreaks havoc.
Sea monster makes the mistake of going to Dog Man's city.

Dog Man and Li'l Petey open a can of Special Whup Ass.

The police at the station know they need Dog Man's help.
More pages in progress...one of the panels has a "binoculars view" which just makes me chuckle. I'll let him finish...

Another comic-in-progress from this week is a Calvin & Hobbes.

Hobbes greets Calvin, arriving home from school, by slamming him off the side of the page (note the tiger tail and Calvin's pointy hair.)
Calvin feels jaded about having to go to school.

When questioned about why Hobbes attacks Calvin when he arrives home from school, Hobbes replies "Because I love to do that."

Finally, this is from school. It's on "goods, services, producers, and consumers."

Goods: Things that are made or gown.
Pictured: Comic books, clothes, TV.

Services: work that someone does for someone else.
Pictured: SWAT team whaling on some bad guys.

Producers: Someone who makes or grows goods or offers services.
Pictured: A farmer.

Consumers: Someone who buys goods or services.
Pictured: A guy at a store.

Eddie wanted to be in charge of carving the jack-o-lanterns. Since he has more energy than I do, I just sat back, watched, and checked our potential ER deductible as he took butcher knife, carving knife, and spoon to some pumpkins. This was totally independent. I touched no pumpkin today.

Billy (not allowed to use a knife) got up and wandered away, so Eddie carved up the little pumpkin that Billy chose, too.

(Billy picked the littlest pumpkin as well..."Mom, this sugar skull can be your pumpkin!")

UPDATE:

Wow, this post is Billy-heavy/Eddie-light, isn't it? There are a few reasons for that, but the biggest reason is that during the Howl, Eddie ran off and did his own thing and he hasn't been writing comic books. It did occur to me, though, that Eddie made an awesome contribution to a classroom project, which was the set for the book that they're reading, Louis Sachar's Holes.

This Eddie-creation is the wicked Mr. Sir's truck, which has the water tanks on the back.

Other things Eddie's been up to: reading Wonder by R. J. Palacio and Losing It by Erin Fry. He has recently learned to play solitaire.

Slacking off

Whoops. I keep meaning to update here, but the time gets away from me. Let's see, what have we been doing since August?

The boys have been fishing with their dad.

Drawing bats...those are motion indicators (the bats are flying upward), not poop. I love this picture.

Getting teeth filled. Billy's mouth was numbed for a filling. He did great. Afterward, we went out to lunch and he chewed up the inside of his numb cheek. I looked up and he had blood all around his mouth like a huge Kool-Aid stain. It was traumatic.
A docile, friendly pet.

The wild-eyed Oscar.
Billy is a huge fan of Dog Man (another genius Pilkey creation.) He has been writing his own Dog Man comics along with Calvin and Hobbes. Very cute. I'll scan those and post them this weekend.
Kyle scored this shirt that I love!

Billy no longer needs help with Lego assembly.
Garage sale motorcycle helmet becomes part of the race car driver costume. (Jeff Gordon fire suit costume compliments of my friend, Raquel...Billy is so proud of this.)

 Playing with hair.

Making homemade lemonade.

 Helping in the grocery store.

Update: a couple more photos....
